Matt Farina and I have been in the same corners of software for years: open source, cloud native, the parts of the industry that look clean on a keynote slide and messy in the issue tracker. At some point the hallway conversations got more useful than most of the official ones. With two different perspectives. So, we put a microphone on them.
Software Madhouse is an unfiltered podcast about building software, the people who build it, and the chaos in between. The tagline is “where building software meets controlled chaos.” That is not branding. That is what it is.
We are not doing vendor pitches. We are not doing hustle-culture career advice. We are two engineers talking about the craft: the decisions that aged badly, the incidents that taught us something, the tools we love, the tools we tolerate, and the communities that keep the whole thing standing.

Matt has been building software for more than three decades, from embedded systems to cloud native infrastructure. He maintains Helm and Artifact Hub. He has worked on Kubernetes, OpenStack, Rancher Desktop, and Drupal. He co-wrote Learning Helm and Go in Practice. He has also been making podcasts longer than this one has existed. If you want someone who can go from architecture to community to “here is what the PR queue actually looks like this week,” that is Matt.

The industry is loud. AI is pouring into every workflow, including the ones maintainers did not ask for. Episode 1 is us walking straight into that: the open source AI firehose, drive-by slop PRs hitting projects like Helm, the extra load on maintainers, and the ways communities are pushing back with policy, GitHub limits, kernel Assisted-by: trailers, and tools like Vouch and Good Egg.
That is the show we wanted. Not a recap of the news. Two people who still live in the work, talking about what it feels like from inside the repo.
